TOWER BLOCK BLOCKED!
The application for 22-44 London Lane has been blocked by Hackney council. We are delighted that the council has listened to local residents. We have worked on our objection to this development for the last three years and our campaign has been defined by the intensity of concerns against the march of tower blocks along the edge of London Fields. We applaud Hackney Council that their objections were entirely representative of the concerns of local people and visitors to the area that we met during the course of our campaign. We are excited at the prospect of working with Southern Housing Group to achieve a more sustainable and sympathetic development on the site and will be contacting them shortly to progress this matter.
Thank you again for your continued support!

No Hackney High-rise is opposed to Southern Housing’s 10 floor tower proposed at 22-44 London Lane E8 3PR. We support the development of the site to provide high quality housing of 3 to 4 storeys and B1(c) employment use and urge Southern Housing Group to reconsider their scheme for the following reasons:
The proposed development:
-
is still too dense, adversely affecting the quality of life for those who live within and surrounding it.
-
provides a minimum quantity of social and affordable housing.
-
provides unsuitable amenity space for young families.
-
replaces invaluable B1(c) workspace with B1 office space – pushing light industrial workshops out of the heart of Hackney.
-
provides yet another gated community that makes no connection with neighbouring streets.
-
provides insufficient on-site parking for disabled people and no parking for occupants.
-
will increase pressures on local services and amenities.
The proposed tower block:
-
falls outside Hackney’s designated Tall Building Zone and is contrary to policies set out in the UDP, Core Strategy and Replacement London Plan.
-
does not preserve or enhance the character or appearance of the Mare Street Conservation area in which it is sited.
-
will dominate the adjacent terraced streets and view from the park.
-
overshadows and reduces light levels in the remainder of the development and surrounding streets.
Comment on the proposed development direct to Hackney here until 6th March
