Hackney’s own Tall Buildings Strategy sets apart London Fields East Side as one of a number of prime sites in Hackney for future “tall” development. Hackney’s planning department are careful to state that this document is not yet approved policy- but nonetheless it appears to be informing the future of Hackney’s skyline with alarming weight and rapidity- and most importantly, without the consultation of any of Hackney’s residents.
The Tall Buildings Strategy forms part of the evidence base to the Local Development Framework (LBH’s policy document which will eventually replace the current Unitary Development Plan). It was undertaken by independent consultants on behalf of LBH. The document is being used by developers to support proposals for tall buildings in Hackney and residents should object to it.
If the tower on 22-44 London gets approval, then the precedent will be set for a whole line of tower blocks around London Fields…
